As many of you already know, the governor has extended the shelter-in mandate to the end of the school year which means all schools in Louisiana will be closed for the remainder of the school year. This is not the decision we were wanting to hear, but understand that safety for our students and staff is most important. Even though students and staff will not be able to physically attend school, Houma Christian is committed to continue providing instruction for the rest of the school year. Our teachers have been working very hard to provide the very best instruction for all students using the digital format. We understand that distance learning has been a big adjustment for our students and teachers, but we will continue working hard to make sure students receive the valuable instruction they need to ensure mastery of competencies and standards needed for success next school year.
Elementary Grades: Pre-K – 6th Grade:
Teachers will continue to provide interactive online lessons for elementary students. The main focus for the fourth nine weeks will be mastering competencies and standards and not academic grades. The final grade for elementary students will be an average of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd nine week grades. We will be evaluating those students that are possibly in danger of failing through our School Building Level Review Committee and will be in contact with those parents. Parents, please remember to take full advantage of all the resources provided to help your child succeed. We have the homework hotline phone numbers available on our website. Also, please communicate with your child’s teacher as they are ready and willing to assist you and your child. The last day for elementary instruction will be May 22nd.
High School Grades: 7th – 12th:
Teachers will continue utilizing Google Classroom to provide your child instruction for the remainder of the school year. Students are receiving grades for assignments and assessments. Parents, please make sure your child is participating in Google Classroom and turning in assignments in a timely fashion. The final spring semester grade will be an average of the 3rd and 4th nine weeks. There will be no final exams this school year. The last day of instruction for seniors will be May 8th. The last day for instruction for the rest of high school is May 22nd. Parents should be monitoring their child’s progress through webpams and teacher communication.
